We are deeply saddened to report Children of Bodom/Bodom After Midnight’s Alexi Laiho passed away in his home in Helsinki, Finland last week. He was 41-years-old. While a cause of death has not been revealed, Laiho suffered from long-term health issues during his last years.

Daniel Freyberg, Mitja Toivonen and Waltteri Väyrynen from Bodom After Midnight expressed:

“We are crushed by the sudden passing of our dear friend and band member. Words cannot describe this shock and the profound sadness that we feel.”

Laiho sister adds:

“We are all absolutely shocked and devastated. We ask for privacy and understanding during these hard times. My little brother’s funeral will take place privately.”

Kelli Wright-Laiho states:

“Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken.”

Laiho along with drummer Jaska Raatikainen founded Children of Bodom in 1993 and held their final concert in December 2019 shortly after their tenth record, Hexed was released. Following the group’s disbandment, Laiho moved on with Bodom After Midnight, who just signed with Napalm Records and recorded three songs along with one music video, which is expected to be released posthumously.

We are shocked about this news as our thoughts go out to Laiho’s family and friends during this tragic time.
