There are few guitarists with a career as comprehensive and extensive as Joe Satriani’s, and he plans to show it all off in his just announced 2016 tour. The tour, titled Surfing to Shockwave, is an interesting moniker as it refers to him playing songs from everything between his albums Surfing with the Alien to his newest release Shockwave Supernova. However, it’s more interesting in the regards to the fact that the title slyly leaves out his debut album, Not of This Earth. While it’s fun to create theories as to why they chose to do that, it probably came down to the simple fact that using the Surfing reference sounded better than anything they could come up with NoTE, and allowed them to convey the message of “everything from the beginning up to this point.”

The show is planned to be a retrospective look at his career, with 45 dates celebrating “30 years of mind-bending guitar daredevilry,”kicking off this February 25th in Seattle. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, September 25th, with meet-and-greet and VIP packages available on the 23rd. Only the first twenty dates have been announced, so keep an eye out for the second leg to be announced in the foreseeable future.

Satriani released his newest album, Shockwave Supernova, on July 24th, which brings his number of studio albums (just under his name) to an impressive 15. The album and tour feature a backing band that are more than capable of keeping up with the guitar virtuoso, with Mike Keneally (Steve Vai, Dethklok) on keyboard and guitar, Marco Minnemann (Necrophagist, Steven Wilson) on drums, and Bryan Beller (Steve Vai,  Dethklok) on bass.
