The Italian metal band Upon This Dawning will be missing the first few shows of the The IX Lives Tour with Ice Nine Kills because their drummer Chris Deets abruptly quit the band with a text message.

In a statement from the band, posted to their Facebook page:

“Yes, Chirs left the band a few weeks ago completely out of nowhere with a text message and blocked our numbers so we can’t reach him. This is not some “we wish him the best” kinda thing, this guy only used us to get a little bit of notoriety and then left us in a really hard situation a few days before tour.

We don’t wanna get into details and talk shit about him, we just thought he was a friend besides our drummer but turned out to be a huge disappointment as a human being.”

Since the band didn’t want to “talk shit,” they then really started airing some dirty laundry in the comments of the original posting:

“Chris was getting more money than the rest of the band in the beginning cause he was getting paid as a fill in drummer, so he was making really good money. When he became official he was getting the same money as the other members.

He’s always been treated like a best friend. Plus got all of his flights to Europe and back paid so he’s always been traveling for free (the rest of the band pay for their flights with their own money instead) and he was still complaining. Left the band out of nowhere with a text message and disappeared.

We never wanted him out of the band, never planned to kick him out, we thought he was one of our best friends til the day he sent that text.”

Upon This Dawning will miss the first three shows of the The IX Lives Tour, so their first show will be in Pittsburgh, PA. They’re supporting headliners Ice Nine Kills, along with support acts Get Scared, Chasing Safety, and Brightwell. The band released their third album, We Are All Sinners, last April on Artery Recordings, selling 1,675 copies in the US in its first week of release.
