Fans are still ecstatic over the fact that The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, Mastodon singer/guitarist Brent Hinds, ex-MarsVolta drummer Thomas Pridgen, and ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery are working on a project together. Last we heard, Weinman and Avery were working on some recordings together. However, in a message posted last night (November 9) on the band’s website, checking in while on the road with Mastodon and Red Fang, Weinman gave the following update on the supergroup:

“So about G.T.O (Giraffe Tongue Orchestra), Brent and I have already got new material. The guy just spits out riffs like a riff machine. Day off tomorrow in Colorado and we shall be working all day on sweet sweet melodies sure to make the young girls cry and the old one scream (not necessarily in that order).”

So as you’re reading this, Hinds and Weinman are likely somewhere in Colorado working on music for this project. That gives us hope that we’ll get to hear what this alt metal nerd’s wet dream sounds like sooner than later. Furthermore, it would appear that Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is the working title for the group (at least for now). As you may recall, when Hinds first revealed this project, he also revealed that he wanted to call it Giraffe Tongue. Looks like he (partially) got what he wanted.

As if that wasn’t enough to hold over fans, Weinman also included video of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s recent performance with Mike Patton in San Francisco. While fan filmed footage has made its way online, video that the band filmed of the performance can be seen after the jump.
