Following the sudden passing of guitarist Cory Smoot (aka Flattus Maximus), GWAR continued on with touring as a four piece. They even officially retired the character of Flattus Maximus in honor of their deceased bandmate. However, it would appear that the Scumdogs of the Universe are slowly making an effort to find a new guitarist.

In a recent press release updating fans on their Summer of “naughty fun” plans, which mainly includes studio time, GWAR revealed the following:

“Faced with the daunting task of finding a new Scumdog who can match the standard of excellence the band demands, GWAR has activated certain contingency plans, and the process that will hopefully lead to a new and hellish alignment with some kind of hideous creature, one capable of slaying thousands with JUST ONE NOTE. Needless to say, auditions are not ‘open.’”

Finding a new band member is never an easy task for a band (even from outer space), especially under such circumstances as this. Hopefully GWAR will have ease finding the right person to continue on with.

In addition to that, GWAR confirmed that they will once again be holding the GWAR-B-Q. While an official announcement is still in the works, the third annual event will be held in Richmond, VA on August 18. Though their focus will be on recording a new album, GWAR have also lined up a handful of shows and special appearances, which can be see after the jump.
