So 2018 is the year we’re finally getting a Tool album, right?! Danny Carey said it, Adam Jones says the music’s done and the lyrics are coming in fast, and Maynard James Keenan? Well, in short, don’t get your hopes up. A since-deleted thread on Reddit has some very specific details about the new album, namely that it’ll be out in May, preceded by a single sometime in April, and that there are songs on it including “Innocence,” “Descending,” and “Ascending” (which the band has played a portion of live). Someone asked Maynard about this and he responded tersely, with “horseshit.”

Responding to another tweet from a fan about new albums from both A Perfect Circle and Tool he said he only spoke about A Perfect Circle, not Tool. As someone that has a somewhat antagonistic relationship with his fans, of course Keenan is going to play it close to the vest. And while he called the specific rumors horseshit, he didn’t say that there wouldn’t be a new Tool album out in 2018, so it’s still possible. Kind of.
