Dave Grohl has a BL’AST! with Nick Oliveri and friends on new EP; band signs to Rise

Santa Cruz hardcore band BL’AST! had their heyday in the late ’80s, releasing several albums on SST Records. And like many a late ’80s band, they broke up in the early ’90s. After reuniting to play some shows in 2001, the band lay dormant until 2013, when Dave Grohl, a fan of the band, re-mastered their 1987 album It’s In My Blood, for Southern Lord. That could have been all we’d heard of the band, except the band have signed to Rise Records and today released a two-song EP, For Those Who’ve Graced the Fire, their first new music in over 20 years.

The band lineup has changed for the interesting, as well. While core members Dinsmore and Mike Neider are still in the band, the rhythm section of Nick Oliveri (Kyuss) and Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age, Danzig) sat things out due to touring obligations and Chuck Dukowski *Black Flag) and Dave Grohl filled in on bass and drums, respectively. While For Those Who Graced the Fire is streaming on Rise’s YouTube page (and below), you can also preorder the 7″ here. The original quartet are working on a full length for Rise, with a release date TBD.
