Doom Side of the Moon Releases New Track From Pink Floyd Project

Posted by on July 13, 2017

While it seems that a band (particularly a metal band) cannot exist without performing at least one Pink Floyd cover it is much more rare to find a quality version. If their name doesn’t give it away, Doom Side of the Moon is a band that does metal covers of Floyd songs but the interesting part is that the covers are actually good.  These are not just tracks sped up to sound metal, they are orchestrated pieces, complete with organ and saxophone, that play with the original arrangements making them wholly original yet completely recognizable. These are talented musicians celebrating the music that they love.  The final product ends up like how Pink Floyd would have sounded backed by Black Sabbath.

That is why I wasn’t at all surprised to discover that Doom Side is a side project of The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt with “a host of celebrated musicians including his bandmates from The Sword, bassist Bryan Richie and drummer Santiago Vela III, vocalist Alex Marrero (Brownout /Brown Sabbath), saxophonist Jason Frey (Black Joe Lewis / Hard Proof), and keyboardist Joe Cornetti (Croy & The Boys).”

The full Dark Side cover album will be released July 28th and can be pre-ordered here.  And Doom Side will be playing live on August 5 at Emo’s in Austin, Texas.

You can watched the trippy videos for Time and their previous release Money on YouTube.
