Jim Carrey rings in the New Year with Alice Cooper

This past Sunday as the Miami Dolphins were getting their asses handed to them, a friend remarked that the last time before the playoffs that anyone cared about the Miami Dolphins was when they were a plot point of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. That  1994 film also gave Cannibal Corpse their biggest exposure ever when the film’s star and co-writer Jim Carrey put Cannibal Corpse in the film. What we’re trying to say is that Carrey has at least some metal cred. He got to flex his showmanship last week, ringing in the New Year with Alice Cooper in Maui.

On December 31, Cooper’s longtime manager Shep Gordon threw a benefit. The Shep Gordon Maui Food Bank and the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Benefit went down, and Alice proved that he’s still a great performer. Carrey threw on some Cooper-like makeup, or corpse paint, if you will, to perform Cooper’s hits “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and “School’s Out” with him. Carrey seems game, although his mic seems a little off on the former. The important thing is that everyone seems to have enjoying themselves, especially Carrey and those in attendance.
