The latest topic spiking controversy within the metal community (and beyond now) was Phil Anselmo’s racism accusations for him giving a Nazi salute and shouting “white power” during the latest edition of the Dimebash charity event in Hollywood, CA a few days ago. The situation has been reported and thoroughly discussed by many people in the metal scene since it broke on Wednesday night, and it’s still a subject of discussion. The latest one to voice his opinion regarding the matter is Machine Head’s Robb Flynn.

Flynn was part of the Dimebash event and witnessed the moment, which Anselmo claimed to be an ‘inside joke’ about him drinking white wine back stage. As one of the musicians that took part of the show, Flynn refuted Anselmo’s explanation in the video above where he stated:

I was there and I could tell you there wasn’t a chardonnay or a pinot grigio in sight backstage. In fact, the only thing that you were drinking, Phil Anselmo, was Becks German beer. Maybe that’s where the joke came from?

The video contains more details regarding the situation and Flynn tells his experience at the event, including a conversation with Anselmo where he mentioned that he “hated the n*gger era of Machine Head.” We recommend taking 10 min of your time and watching the whole thing. It seems like this isn’t going to go away any time soon, and while it was in character for Phil to offer a non-apology, he might have to address this again.
UPDATE 1: Anselmo’s Scour bandmate John Jarvis sent Metal Sucks the below photo, which clearly shows Anselmo with a bottle of white wine. So this does seem to support the fact that he was indeed drinking white wine. That being said, this doesn’t make Anselmo’s actions any more excusable. Plenty of people drink too much white wine without becoming racist.

UPDATE 2: Turns out Anselmo is NOT drinking white wine in the photo below. As Metal Sucks points out, Anselmo is actually drinking from a bottle of Deep Eddy Lemon-Flavored Vodka.
