Marty Friedman’s b-sides are better than your band’s a-sides

Onetime Megadeth guitarist and incredibly successful solo artist Marty Friedman is mounting a solo tour next week, his first North American tour since 2003. Tying in with that, perhaps, is the fact that a deluxe edition of his Prosthetic debut, Inferno, will be released this coming Friday (4). Among the “deluxe” part of the reissue is a song that didn’t make the cut. “Jasmine Cyanide” might not have made it onto the album, but it’s still a pretty great song.  Another one from the album that features Danko Jones on vocals, is also features members of Intervals and Jeff Loomis (drummer Anup Sastry), Strung Out (bassist Chris Aiken), Skyharbor (rhythm guitarist Keshav Dhar) and Tesseract (backup vocalist Daniel Tompkins). While it starts out a little rap-rocky sounding, by the time the chorus comes along, you realize there’s something pretty special happening, and that’s before Friedman shreds.
