Mastodon aim to ‘do more better’ with next album

Posted by on March 15, 2016

mastodon 306We’re getting studio updates from everyone these days – Every Time I Die, Metallica, and now, kind of, Mastodon. In an interview that drummer Brann Dailor and guitarist Bill Kelliher did for Live Nation TV about their playing and what the band’s done to grow, they state that they’re going into writing mode for the follow up to 2014’s Once More ‘Round the Sun. Dailor explains his goal for the next record:

“With a new record looming—we’re about to go into writing, I just want to be able to do something different and not be stagnant with my playing. Every new album is another opportunity to ‘do more better’—cause we ‘should do more better, shouldn’t we?’”

Indeed. And it seems like they’ve got some stuff percolating too, as Kelliher says his wife wakes him up and says that he’s playing guitar riffs in his sleep. In an interview that Dailor did with us several years ago he said the band was thinking of releasing “a collection of slower songs and more moody stuff.” While “White Walker,” which the band released on the Game of Thrones Catch the Throne Vol. 2 mixtape might have been one of those, there’s no word on whether they’ll be revisiting any of that on their forthcoming album.
