At this point, Metallica are old pros at playing the National Anthem. The two-guitar version of “The Star Spangled Banner” that Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield played last night isn’t that different from the one they’ve played for the past few years during ‘Metallica Day’ for the San Francisco Giants. However, that generally hasn’t happened during a championship game in front of millions of viewers. The two played the song during game 5 of the NBA championship game between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. It proved to help the home team, as the Warriors beat the Cavs. And since the band aren’t playing any more shows until August 1, maybe they’ll actually have some time to work on their next album again.
