The AV Club’s Undercover series has done some great things recently. They introduced GWAR to a whole new audience, which proved to be so popular that the band have returned every year since.  They’ve also given Melvins an opportunity to cover Butthole Surfers while giving away ice cream to children, and let Reggie Watts do a bizarre cover of Van Halen’s “Panama.” More recently, they let Wild Throne have their way with Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s “Say Say Say.” Today, they feature Nashville singer-songwriter Natalie Prass covering Slayer’s “Raining Blood. If you’re a Slayer fan, or even if you’re just a Natalie Prass fan, you’ll probably hate this. Like, a lot.

While it isn’t the least distorted Slayer song we’ve heard (or even written about today), there’s a weird fuzz/lo-fi thing happening with the signature opening. Then Prass does her thing, which is somewhere between surf rock and tropicalia. It’s interesting, but not even the first cover of “Raining Blood” by a female singer-songwriter. That’d be Tori Amos’ equally bizarre cover. which you can find below.
