This is one of the oddest things we’ve seen in a while. You would expect Philip Anselmo to be the kind of guy that would beat up anyone in high school that liked The Smiths, but in New Orleans, he teamed up with comedian/musician Dave Hill for a cover of the  band’s “Please Please Please, Let Me Get What I Want.” The performance took place after a screening of an episode of Metal Grasshopper , the web series by Hill. What’s really surprising is how well Anselmo pulls of Morrissey given that he’s either shrieking with his own band The Illegals or singing in a bluesy swagger with Down.

Metal Grasshopper is produced and directed by Chris Lee, who plays guitar in Supagroup and is married to former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult. The series, which will likely air on a web portal this fall, is described by Lee as “a hard rock, f-bombed spoof of The Karate Kid,” with Anselmo the Mr. Miyagi mentor figure and Hill the “Kid” in need of instruction, according to the Times Picayune.
