Of all the bands that played Rock In Rio this past weekend, Sepultura was certainly the heaviest and most underground, despite the fact that they’re huge in Brazil and have garnered a few gold albums. Celebrating their 30th anniversary, they brought out a special guest to end the show, none other than Steve Vai. While one wouldn’t necessarily look at the technical virtuosity of Vai fitting in with Sepultura’s thrash, he did it fantastically, playing a mashup of his own “Bad Horsie” with Sepultura’s “Kaiowas” before closing with “Roots Bloody Roots.” It’s an odd combination that somehow works out really well.
