This week on Late Show with David Letterman is Foo Fighters week. That means that the band will be the musical guest all week, and Dave Grohl sat down with Letterman for an interview before their musical performance. And it was a hell of a musical performance. Instead of busting out a song from their forthcoming Sonic Highways, they brought up country singer Zac Brown to cover Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” That gave the Foos four guitars, and it sounds glorious. The song’s a bit shorter than the original, but it’s also jammier due to the four guitars, especially in the solo part. This isn’t the first time the Foos have covered Sabbath. A few years ago at a Saturday Night Live after party, Taylor Hawkins’ cover band Chevy Metal did “Fairies Wear Boots” with Will Forte helping out.

During Grohl’s couch session with Letterman, he also spoke about his eight year old daughter’s taste in music, and the fact that the music his parents played for him when he was eight included Slayer. Sonic Highways, the series about the making of the latest Foo Fighters album, debuts on HBO on October 17th. The album will be out on November 10th.
