Video: Kirk Hammett Reminisces About His Decision To Leave Exodus On “That Metal Show”

Today, we all know Kirk Hammett as the lead guitarist of Metallica. But before he replaced Dave Mustaine in the band back in 1983, Hammett was a member of another famous Bay Area thrash band: Exodus. While Metallica went on to gain more success than any of their thrash peers (let alone Exodus), it still leaves one to ask “what if?” Did Hammett ever have doubts about leaving Exodus at the time? Well, That Metal Show made an effort to find out  during Hammett’s appearance on the show.

In a sneak peek video for the season premiere episode for VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show, Hammett reminisced about what led him to accept Metallica’s offer to audition for Mustaine’s vacant spot. It’s a pretty interesting insight for any fan of the infamous Bay Area thrash scene.

You can watch the sneak peek video above. The full That Metal Show episode featuring Hammett, as well as legendary axe man Uli Jon Roth, will air on Saturday, March 19 at 11 pm ET on VH1 Classic.
