As we all know, on November 18th, Metallica will release Hardwired… To Self Destruct, their first album in eight years. If eight years is an eternity for a gap between albums, think how much more of an eternity it is if you were in diapers eight years ago? The “Kids React To” series played a bunch of tykes “Hardwired” to see what they thought of it. Ranging in age from eight to 13, the kids seem a little dumbfounded. “I’m so confused,” one says. “Now I know how my dad thinks of Lil Wayne,” another says. One thinks it might be the Rolling Stones.

Not surprisingly, the kids have no idea who the song is by. When told that it’s a new song from Metallica, some of them have at least heard of the band, while one says that he knows who they are from a shirt Kylie Jenner wore once (the same dude that thought it might be the Rolling Stones). Some of the kids like them. The video also shows the kids a picture of Metallica from the ’80s and one from today, and they’re all pretty incredulous that they’re still putting out music. In addition to the new song, they also played the kids “Master of Puppets,” “One” and “Enter Sandman.” Some of the kids seem to turn the corner and actually appreciate the band. It seems to be the first time some of them have ever heard metal, and we all know that Metallica was that gateway band for many of us. Maybe they still could be for the next generation.
