Last Friday (19), Metallica performed at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA and during their show, they honored the late Chris Cornell not once, but twice. The first was made by frontman James Hetfield during the end of the song “The Unforgiven.” In a soft and sorrowful voice, Hetfield took the microphone and said, “We forgive you, Chris.” As the evening progressed, it was time for bassist Robert Trujillo’s solo, and he ended up playing a snippet of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” in Cornell’s honor. Was it a little classless to “forgive” Cornell for comitting suicide? Perhaps, but at least Trujillo’s solo was touching.
