A rare documentary following Ozzfest 1999 has surfaced online. Titled We Sold Our Souls for Rock ‘n Roll was originally released back in 2001 and had a limited amount of screenings. However, the film never got picked up to major distributors. The documentary was directed by Penelope Spheeris, who is referred to as a ‘rock ‘n roll anthropologist.’ Spheeris has an extensive history with rock and metal as she formed the first Los Angeles music video production company Rock ‘N Reel back in 1974. Spheeris has also directed many films including The Decline of Western Civilization, Megadeth: Wake Up Dead, The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years, Wayne’s World, and more.

We Sold Our Souls for Rock ‘n Roll is a documentary that follows the Ozzfest tour back in 1999 and features interviews, live music, and clips from Black Sabbath, Primus, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Buckethead, System of a Down and more. The film is currently available for free, and you can watch it below:
