Well We Now Know Who Is NOT The New Dream Theater Drummer

Posted by on April 22, 2011

If you watched Dream Theater’s cock tease trailer yesterday, then you would have noticed that drummer Marco Minnemann was among the seven drummers spotted in it. While he was one of the early rumored names to be Mike Portnoy’s replacement, Blabbermouth revealed that Minnemann was indeed not the new drummer back in January. But if his appearance in the documentary’s trailer gave you any false hopes, Minnemann himself confirmed that it isn’t him.

In a Facebook posting that has since been removed (but thanks to Metal Sucks still lives on), Minnemann posted the following:

“Haha, thanks, but I’m not DTs drummer. I know everybody thinks I am and our chemistry is great, but I’m doing actually another thing with Jordan and there are also plans for another project with Jordan and John P together.”

So there you have it, Minnemann is indeed NOT the new Dream Theater drummer. Now that leaves us with six other possibilities, including the following:

Mike Mangini (Annihilator, Extreme, James LaBrie, Steve Vai)

Aquiles Priester (Hangar, ex-Angra)

Thomas Lang (stOrk)

Virgil Donati (Planet X)

Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal, Nile, Malevolent Creation, Today is the Day)

Peter Wildoer (Darkane, Pestilence)

At this point Mangini seems to be the most likely since his name has been thrown around the rumor mill recently as well. But which finalist will Dream Theater give the final drum stick? Guess we’ll have to wait and stay tuned to The Bachelor: Dream Theater.
