Ephel Duath Turns Into A Progressive Metal Supergroup

Super MegaGroups

If you’re familiar with Italian progressive/avant-garde metal band Ephel Duath, then you know that guitarist/ core songwriter Davide Tiso is the only constant member in the band’s 13 year life span. In fact, the band has gone through more lineup changes than we can keep track of. But Tiso has recently put together one hell of a lineup for Ephel Duath’s new EP.

Ephel Duath has announced the addition of Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Testament, Sadus, Charred Walls Of The Damned) and singer Karyn Crisis (Crisis), while drummer Marco Minnemann (Paul Gilbert, Necrophagist, Kreator, and appeared on Ephel Duath’s Through My Dog’s Eyes) is returning to the group as well. The four musicians will record a new EP together, expected to be released in the Spring of 2012 via Ephel Duath’s new label Agonia Records.

It’s not exactly clear, though, whether the three new members will stick around for future albums or if this is a one off recording. Either way, this certainly is one hell of a prog metal lineup. Minnemann, who you may know best as one of the drummers eyeing to replace Mike Portnoy in Dream Theater, is reportedly in the studio recording drums for the EP as we speak. So hopefully we’ll get to hear something from this supergroup soon.
